In the early morning light, I was mesmerized by the pattern of sand on this Maui beach. Sculpted by endless footprints, by both man and beast, the irregularity reaches a point of pattern. The relatively shallow depth of field was achieved by zoom. 1/320 sec at f/13, ISO 400, 170mm

Bullet Train

While in Kyushu, I made a trip to see Nagasaki, the site of the second atomic bomb which ended World War II. I rode a bullet train, and was entranced by the fields as they whizzed by. Even with a fast shutter speed, the foreground was blurred by the train's speed. 1/320 sec at f/18, ISO 800, 18mm
